Memories of a Newsman
23 May 2012
Memories of a Newsman is the title of a book which contains the memories of one of Iran’s oldest news dealers, Mohammad Ebrahim Ranjbar Amiri, 86, who has spent 76 of his life selling papers.
IBNA: Ranjbar believes that selling other things beside papers like cigarettes and nuts is an insult to the press.
In an interview with IBNA, Ranjbar said he began selling papers in 1937 in Tehran by selling all kinds of newspapers.
He stated that newsstands should be controlled by the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance not the Organization of Marketplace. “Nowadays, newsstands sell many other things beside papers which make them look like small supermarkets.â€
He said old newsmen loved their job as a professional occupation, but today, news deals sell other things beside papers.
He currently works in Karaj, Alborz Province, and runs a newsstand over there.
He went on to say that the book encompasses his memories which he wrote for Etelaat Haftegi magazine. “I wrote the memories to have something to last after I die rather than having them published.â€
