Thousands of Britain, US consulate
13 February 2011
The manager of Majlis library''s docs center said that some 50,000 documents of Britain and the United States national archive, related to Iran(late 19th century till the WWI), have been gathered.
IBNA: Ali Tatari told IBNA: As Iranian''s historiography throughout the history was usually ordered by the kings and the regimes thus inaccurate issues were constantly included. Although great historians existed who registered the facts but in order to achieve the truth they are not enough. Thus foreign narrations in other texts and works could be a great solution.
One way to achieve the facts in the contemporary history are the foreign archives in particular documents which were penned by foreign counselors present in Iran.
He added that the docs are remarkable since foreign counselors frequently traveled to Iran and wrote reports of Iran''s social and economical situation alongside its details.
The manager of Majlis library''s doc''s center went on to say that in order to collect the docs, the Majlis docs center prioritized a plan since 2010 in line with achieving other countries'' docs which were related to Iran. Obtaining the archive docs of countries including the United States, Germany, Britain, France, Ottoman, Netherlands, Italy, India, Russia and etc are among the priorities.
Moreover we decided to find documents which do not exist in national archives or the ones which have not been collected yet. The program was planned in order to present documents to the researchers and develop scientific researches and further compilations. In the first step 40,000 papers of Britain''s parliamentary docs were published since they were in English a PDF file was prepared and their prints were released. Furthermore we will translate them.
He went on to say that the first part of the docs which are related to Britain''s Consulate in Iran, reveal the presence of the consulates in different Iranian cities including Isfahan, Kerman, Yazd, Kermanshah, rasht, Khorasan, Azerbaijan and Boushehr. They can help us finding the missing parts in Iran''s history. The docs present accurate statistics of Iran''s economy in those times which are not found in other sources.
Moreover the Majlis library has decided to release 10,000 documents of the United States Foreign affairs Ministry for the first time. The papers were collected from US congress archive and reflect Iran''s related issues.
