Review of the 17th International Oral History Conference

Held in Buenos Aires from 4 to 7 September 2012, the XVII International Oral History Conference: “The Challenges of Oral History in the 21st Century: Diversity, Inequality and Identity Construction" concluded successfully. For five days we could share and exchange experiences with colleagues from all over the world in discussions and debates that went further the sessions and panels. Co organized by the International Oral History Association and the Asociación de Historia Oral de la República Argentina; the Conference received more than 600 participants from the five continents.

Memories of Conflict, Conflicts of Memory

Posted on September 4, 2012.There are very few facets of public and private life that are not affected by cultural memories of war and conflict. Recent academic scholarship has also been revolutionised as experts on literature, cinema, history, area studies, sociology, anthropology and many others attempt to theorise the memory-narratives of the last century marked by unprecedented totalitarian regimes, coup d’états, military confrontations, popular movements and what Alain Badiou recently called the passion for the real.

Call for Presentations

This inter- and multi-disciplinary conference aims to examine, explore and critically engage with the issues and implications created by the massive exploitation of digital technologies for inter-human communication and examine how online users form, archive and de-/code their memories in cybermedia environments, and how the systems used for production influence the way the users perceive and work with the memory.

International Conference: Anatomy of the British Policies in Iran (1800-2012)

The Institute for Iranian Contemporary Historical Studies intends to hold an international conference on the subject of anatomy of the British policies in Iran from 1800 to 2012, based on the newly found records and field researches. The abstracts will be received until 5th June and the articles until 11th Sep. 2012. Date of conference: for two days in October and November 2012.

Memoirs of Hujjat al-Islam Reza Motalebi

Hujjat al-Islam Reza Motalebi is a cleric from Isfahan. Before the revolution, he was the imam of the Fallah Mosque – which was later renamed Abuzar Mosque. By his presence and efforts, Abuzar Mosque soon became a base for supporters of the Imam and the revolution. After the victory of the revolution, he played a role in uniting forces and maintaining political vitality in southwest Tehran.

The Necessity of Receiving Feedback in Oral History

Whenever we engage in a task, we naturally seek ways to evaluate our performance — to correct shortcomings and enhance strengths. Such refinement is only possible through the feedback we receive from others. Consider, for instance, a basketball player whose shots are consistently accurate; should he begin shooting blindfolded, his success rate would rapidly decline, as he would be deprived of essential feedback from each attempt.

Sir Saeed

The book “Sir Saeed” is a documentary [narrative] of the life of martyr Seyyed Mohammad Saeed Jafari, written by Mohammad Mehdi Hemmati and published by Rahiyar Publications. In March 2024, this book was recognized as one of the selected documentary biographies in the 21st edition of the Sacred Defense Book of the Year Award.
